We flew from Vientiene to Pakse, top red star in southern Laos. Here’s a rough map of our route so far since arriving in Mandalay, Myanmar, New Years Eve from Yunnan, China.
At posting we in southern Laos (minus sign).
A day’s motor bike trip up to the Bolaven Plateau with its numerous waterfalls and coffee plantations was a visual treat.
Tad Fan and Tad Alang waterfalls.
Good food and sunsets in Pakse. Doc Mai Lao Caffee Restaurant with its secret garden is the best – Italian and Lao.

Top: Traffic jam outside Pakse. Bottom: Pakse sunset – where Xe Don River meets Mekong.
From Pakse we headed south in a side motor bike tuk-tuk (!!) towards 4000 Islands, stopping in Champasak for three leisurely nights.
Champasak was once the capital of Lao kingdom. The town runs 4 km along the Mekong and is sleepy even by Lao standards. Traditional Lao wooden houses mix with colonial remains and old temples.
The town of Champasak is a short motorbike ride to Wat Phu.
Right: Wat Phu Champasak. Left: biking along village roads and paths.

That brings back great memories we did exactly the same trip.

Hello Kerry,
I keep meaning to comment on your pictures and adventures and every new one seems to either equal or outdo the previous. Your writing, sometimes tongue in cheek
and pictures are a real treat. Loved Vientiane, breathtaking temples, statues and flora.
Found the wartime maps and remnants a reminder of the war devastations these areas suffered. Your latest Southward Bound, loved Trattoria Italiano …. Mamma Mia (not Abba).
Both Doug and I wish you continued safe journeys and your sharing your many adventures.
Big Hugs,
Christine
