Siem Reap

Three days to visit the temples of Angkor with a day in between, these to check out the museum, relax and swim at our lovely hotel, Memoire Sien Reap.

Pub Street; cheap and cheerful Lilypop restaurant and a sample from Chamkar’s.

At night Pub street was the centre of action and food in this town runs the full gamet. Our favourite was a vegetarian restaurant called Chamkar very our hotel. It (almost) made a vegetarian – even vegan – out of me after two dinners …incredible Cambodian flavours.

Our taxi driver in from the airport became our driver. Perhaps risky but turned out to be a good decision. Amatak started us off with the older, further out Roluos Group Hindu temples named after a nearby town. They were built in late 9th century during the 1st unification of warring states.

Above: Preah Ko “Sacred Bull”(Roluos Group)

Next up,chaotic Beng Melea, a sprawling Hindu jungle temple, early 11th century.

Bottom right: Bakong (Rolous Group) others: Beng Melea

My favourite of the day was Banteay Srey “citadel of the women” with beautifully delicate carvings, possibly carved by women.

Banteay Srey. All exquisite works of art!

Our mid day snack from roadside stall. Sticky rice with black beans in sugar cane stalk. Yumm.
