The short answer is Yes…it’s okay. Ho Chi Minh City is the new name but it encompasses a much broader metropolis. Phew, I like ‘Saigon’.
The city sits in the west side of the Saigon river. While somewhat frantic it is hard not to pick up on its positive energy.
Clockwise from left: Bitexco Financial Tower, the 5th tallest building in the world); People’e Committee Building (aka Hotel de Ville built during French period), skyscape from The Rex garden terrace (on first floor press briefings were made during the American war).
Clockwise from top left: another view (Saigon River) from Bitexco Financial Tower ; typical street scene with mobs of motorbikes, Notre Dame Cathedral; one of many lovely city parks; and, whimsical kitchen scenes on street tiles.
From Top left: Main Post Office (designed by Gustav Eiffel’s firm, 1886/91); picture of Anti-war demonstration in Ottawa! at War Remnants Museum.
The War Remnants Museum testifies to the destructiveness of the ‘American war’ in which 130 billion was spent by the US. (No mention of how much the Chinese and Russians spent). Over 1 million civilians were killed.
Saigon is delightful, teaming with colour, positive energy, and cranes interspersed on the skyline reflecting a city in the move.
No fear of colour in this country!
From the top of the world…well almost. Eon Heli Bar 52nd floor of Bitexco Financial Tower.
