Oaxaca: Posada Rancho Cerro Largo

This place located an hour and a half drive up the coast from Huatulco deserves a special posting. It’s in fact just south of Mazunte and very close to San Agustinillo.

A second visit to this gem was partly to have my buddy Diane experience it. As an aside, she is the taker of many of this trips photos.

This is a place to relax, enjoy the environment and eat good food (vegetarian). Yoga is offered to those interested by Posada owner Mario Correla who is a master yoga instructor.

Our abode

By the time we reserved the top pick ‘rooms’ (they are all wall-less with palapa roofs) were taken but we still had lots of privacy and shade from afternoon sun as an option.

Part of the dining area

The dining area is an L shape where the most healthy and delicious breakfast and dinner are served. Lots of conversations to participate in if one chooses, Spanish and English mainly.

Coming back from Beach

We did go into the water but one has to pick ones moments. On climb back up there are many spots to stop and enjoy the views, eastward and westward.

Sunsets to die for

This being the Pacific, all evenings provided dramatic sunsets. Not a voluntarily early riser but did manage one amazing sunrise.

Happy hour in our finery
Mostly wild animal life abounds

Our friendly armadillo pays a visit. Family parrot gets out a few times a day and while mostly quiet does sometime give his opinion. The pelicans are oblivious to humans. They are either sleeping as they drift around or fishing dramatically around you.

Yoga studio and vista spots

Mario is the calm reflected in his Posada. Welcoming, an incredible yoga master who varies daily practices in the open-wall studio. Yoga was a daily pre-breakfast routine for us.

Strolls on the beach

Posada Rancho Cerro Largo is a rare find – a reprieve from the coastal vibe of once quiet, but no longer, coastal fishing villages.

  1. It’s a beautiful spot. My friends spent time in that area and loved it so much they wanted to buy property but the Covid hit. Enjoy the great weather, it’s cold up here.
