Shanghai

Three varied days,  in no particular order we roamed the Old Town, the Yu Yuan Bazaar with its reconstructed mini village, streets like the one in top left photo, and sipped cocktails at the Long Bar in the Bund (at what is now the Waldorf  Shanghai but was the exclusive Shanghai Club in the 1920’s).

Food from any corner of China or of the world for that manner. Fusion the best!

We walked The Bund in the evening and the next morning. Here the evening shot is looking across at Pudong which was rice fields and warehouses prior to the ’90s!

  2. Kerry….how cold it it? We are in a deep freeze here. Wow…China really is a miracle. I remember the days of working there in the late 80s when there was only 1 western hotel on Beijing. Almost everywhere I traveled it was a government guest house where they would announce when you were to have a bath and every room had an old thermos of hot water. Any shopping was limited to government stores. But the good thing was,,,everyone bicycled everywhere. It was good for health and the environment but understandably the wet, cold and pollution were mitigating forces that lead to more and more cars. What is the pollution like?

Just back from Fredericton…saw Kim! This summer together was so much fun!

    Merry Christmas!

    1. It is rather hard to adjust to in terms of pollution Elizabeth. Everything else is great…the gardens, people, food, etc. What change indeed. The staff at our little spot in Beijing was so welcoming and helpful. We are now in Suzhou after a few days in Shanghai. Most transport is electrical or hybrid but the shear volume of various forms of transport makes it so conjested! Enjoying none the less.
Hope things are good with Kim. Have a lovely xmas. Well be in Yunnan Province. I would love to hear of your experiences in these parts. You were over here in such a transitional period! Xox
