Bagan-historical gem

Three days in this amazing archeological area of 50 square kilometers…SW of Mandalay, where between 50,000 to 200,000 people once lived. 2,000 temples, pagodas, monasteries etc. now remain from the 13,000 that were put in place between mid 1000’s and late 1200’s.

Above, a sample of Buddhas. It was great fun exploring off the beat areas on the third day on electric scooter .
Below, the intricacies of craftsmen of ancient times can still be admired…

And passing young people add to the beauty no? I caught the young fellow, bottom right, in silhouette, and loved his modernity against the contrast of the setting.

Below a typical tuck-tuck (this one half full…believe me.); fishing boats ready for the next morning; and Barry posing with young monks.

Most boys here would have had their vocation chosen by families too poor to support them.
