Sad to Leave Luang Prabang

This place was ear-marked as a pause place. A place to just hang for awhile.

Ten days later despite Chinese New Years with lots of folks visiting from that great country we hate to leave.

Top left: bamboo bridge across ….River that we crossed daily to reach the old town, a hundred and fifty meters away.

My day learning traditional silk dying and weaving methods at Ock Pop Tok. Picking fruit from Annato tree from which I and two fellow students made orange dye. Other colours as well. Bottom left, traditional Hmong skirt. Also our new buddies from England, Judy and Mariam, who we met on boat down the Mekong,  joined for sunset cocktails and dinner at end of day.

Bomb products at night market; Hmong woman modeling collar of traditional clothing. Bamboo bridge, day and night view (notice night missing a section of lights. Route home😱 !)

We had such fun here vegging (great movie nights!) as well as exploring on foot and by bike.

I took a course at Tamarind Cooking School, a 15 minute tuk-tuk ride outside the city in an idylic pot. We made Jeow Mak Keua (aubergibe dip); stuffed lemongrass; mok pa (fish steamed in banana leaves); Jeow Mak Len (Lao tomato salsa); and, Tam Mak Taeng (cucumber salad). For dessert: Jhao Gam – purple stucky rice with coconut sauce and fruit. All unique and yummy!

Above are my products from classes: cooking , jewelry making and weaving. So much fun!

  1. I am thoroughly enjoying your journey. Every entry is most interesting and I imagine how much you are seeing and learning at the grass root level. No alternate facts in your blogs! Keep the photos coming, with your commentary, I’m having fun reading about it all. I miss a map. A drawing of your progress. Happy travels!
