The Plitvice Lakes are a Croatian natural wonder, with sixteen interconnected crystal-clear, mostly turquoise lakes with countless waterfalls that drop as high as 64 meters.
A UNESCO world heritage park, there is ample space for hiking within its 294 square kilometers of lakes and forest. It is quite possible to get away from the huge crowds that tend to stick to the main pathways and electric boats.
Hiking up we encountered only a few others. We did come across evidence of recent brown bear presence. Lots of critters here.
The lakes cascade from one to another with the various falls providing wondrous transition from the upper to lower lakes.
The water is clear due to deposits of “tavertine” which I understand is basically powdery white limestone rock.
It is hard to capture the clarity of the water with a Samsung phone but here goes:
I must put in a word for our accommodations. We stayed in the recently opened Imperial House in Jezerce which is conveniently located near entrance 2. Our host not only gave us shuttle service but chauffeured us to dine the best restaurant in the area, Degenia.

Wow pictures are wonderful…what fun you guys are having. Barry, you have the perfect mate… Kerry is up for all venues, where a lot of us would be scared.
So happy your holiday is so beautiful. Croatia is such a splendid place.
Love from us both 💖💖💖
