Bike Tour continued

Day 4 Wednesday we left Viñeles, bussing to a pretty impressive Indian cave in which we took a boat ride through its cavernous core.

Lush entrance to Indian cave and tres amigas in boat.

Very cool caverns

Next up, Che Guevara’s headquarters located in a cave during the 1962 Cuban missile crisis.

and then very hilly bike (no energy for photo-taking) before being bussed to tired government owned and run hotel complex w/ restaurant and pool.

They let some crazy Americans in: bran flakes box hat’ed American artist lady at pool at end of day; Barry after his fall; and whole group at the end of day’s cycle.

Day 5 Thursday

Soroa is a strip of well groomed homes along a single road with no town centre. Once rich in coffee plantations its current raison d’être now seems to be nature tourism.

Casa Altura with our separate bungalows in Soroa; more biking.

We bike from Sora to Las Terrazas, a UNESCO Biosphere reserve known for its lush, green surroundings and thriving art community. We learn why it is lush:we had a rainy day with hilly ride so did not opt for a return bike ride.

We learn the history of Las Terrazas and visit local artists.

Final party in el Campo…

Day 6 Friday

Back to Havana for a walking tour and final group dinner.

Overall a fun experience… great characters and the most wonderful young men from various countries but not a real biking trip if you expect biking to be the major activity!

  1. Hi Kerry & Barry Lovely email, pictures and surrounding countryside!

Is Barry ok. You said he had a fall? Hope so. Take care everyone.

Gary and I have been in our Texas home since Dec 30 and loving the (mostly) nice weather, cool nights and lots of rain but this week it gets over 70 F during the day. My favourite temps.

Love to all, Donna & Gary
