El Mar y La Tierra: Best of Panama

The Sea: BOCAS DEL TORO

Beautiful beaches.

The Bocas del Toro Islands... We were at Bocas del Drago on the northern shore of Isla Colón (orange) on the western Carribean side.

At or near our friends’ wonderful home on the coast.

View of the ‘surf shack’ (beach house) from the main house; bro Gerry on walk.

The Land: BOUQUETE

Eight years have past since since we visited Frank and his gem of a place: Río Encantado. It certainly has expanded (canapy bridges over the river and new trail, a treehouse near waterfalls).

Overlooking pool area, canapy walk, Frank demonstrating his river rope ‘swing’, and new treehouse accommodation.

Indigenous family in Boquete; wonderful shrubs and flowers in town.

We tasted the art of Frank’s former cook 8 years ago. Paolo is now chef at nearby Lucero, Golf and Country Club which grows much of its own produce.

Six fruit sorbet flavours, yumm. Innovative bikes (no gears!) for golfers (never used yet).

Cicada and cana.

Sea and Land: PANAMÁ CITY

Last stop for me this winter. Lots of change in 8 years:

The city has risen even taller; mall shopping while waiting for replacement of a lost passport (No, not mine) ; our wonderful new hotel: InnFiniti.

The Panamá Canal has a new viewing deck of the Miraflores locks where you can spend hours watching the ships work their ways thru the three channels.

The new Biomuseo on the Amador Causeway, designed by Frank Gehry (his first for Latin America) is playful and informative.

Food here is great albeit not cheap. Outstanding meals at La Vespa and at Casa del Marisco ACHA.

Farewell Panamá!
