Side trip to Alexandria

We arrive in Cairo ahead of our GAdventure tour and after a couple of days in Gisa we are off to take a look at the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.

View from our window in Downtown Seaview Suites
Not a fancy entrance to street nor to building but a comfy suite and
very handy to everything.
Strolling the Cornish – walkway along the seaboard to Citadel. Note the cats, top left. They seem to be favoured and well cared-for in this city.

Like many places young (and sometimes older) people love to have their pictures taken with you.

Friendly people. Great fresh fruit and veggies.
Young woman having marriage photos taken, left; and with her proud mother after.

We mostly wander not far from the waterfront. But our meandering takes us to a local park and small fairground as well:

Not only children can have
fun here!

The city has many examples of beautiful architecture with intricate work:

Al Qaeda Ibrahim Basha Mosque

As our short stay in Alexandria turns to night, the numerous ruins and life around them have their own beauty:

A stunning backdrop for an orange stand

One of the highlights of Alexandria is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. It was built in 2002 as a tribute to the  Library of Alexandria of ancient times.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and shoreline across from it; boys taking a dip. Brrrr.
Stunning architecture of the library’s interior

Driving back to Cairo had its own points of interest. Our guide in Gisa had suggested we keep an eye out for the humungous El Natron Correction and Rehabilitation and we did manage a few pictures as we whizzed by on the highway. Built in 2017 in response to major criticism of human rights abuse in old institutions, the jury still seems to be out as to whether this is a bid to seriously deal with the issues or not.

Top: El Natron Correction and Rehabilitation Center. Bottom: The Red El Farog Axis Bridge. – the widest cable-stayed bridge in the world.

Can’t help commenting on Egyptian-style driving. The purpose of lines seems debatable.

Here we come – right down the middle! Trucks provide visual colour delight.

We make it back to Cairo.

  1. Great photos, Kerry. We are surviving a Norther here in LP. Everybody, Mexicanos, are wearing parkas. In the 60s at night. Next week in the 80s. Abrazos
