Udawalawa National Park

We head out on safari at 5:30 a.m. to Udawalawa Naional Park known for its elephants and birds.

Early morning welcome

Peahen (peakcock); Ceylon Spotted Deer- a subspecies of Axis deer that only inhabit Sri Lanka

Heavy rains last night; helping out a stuck land rover.
Reflections
Commotion when male decides to steal and eat someone’s plastic bag with snacks (hopefully) out of a landrover.
Breakfast break picnic style with view of crocodiles. Fish swarm leftover bread
Marsh Crocodiles: it’s a lazy life
Lots of water buffalo and three types of monkeys, two endemic to Sri Lanka
The resevoir was created in 1972 and the park after that to protect the area, including displaced wildlife.
