Our bnb hosts convinced us easily to do a day trip to the Isle of Skye, the largest island of the inner Hebrides.
First we stop by the castle of Eilean Donan, one of the most photographed castles in Scotland.

Our rough target destination is the hike up the Fairy Pools. Yet the scenary is by far our motivation for the drive.

Views from single track Coillore Farm Road on Skye:

We arrive at Allt Coir’ a’ Mhadaidh (Mountain stream of the Wild dogs). What becomes the river Brittle runs down from the peak of the Black Cuillin Mtns in a series of little falls and pools.

The area was famous for clan battles particularly one in 1601 between the MacDonalds and MacCleods with the former winning. The devastation resulted in a Scottish crown-facilitated truce that resulted in long term peace between the two clans.

One source says that fairies are green and ride horses backward. Don’t see any today. Nor wild dogs that used to roam.

Too cold for a dip but saw some crazy others took one.

Homeward bound. Scenary and hike worth the trip!
